A NR-18, específica para a construção civil, destaca a importância da sinalização para prevenir acidentes. Placas, cavaletes e sinais luminosos devem ser claros, utilizando cores chamativas e pictogramas universais para alertar sobre riscos como áreas de queda, obstáculos ou presença de máquinas perigosas. Além disso, manter o canteiro limpo e organizado, com áreas de circulação desobstruídas, reduz o risco de tropeços e colisões.
Equipamentos mal conservados, como máquinas com proteções inadequadas ou extensões elétricas danificadas, são causas frequentes de acidentes. A NR-12, que regula máquinas e equipamentos, exige inspeções regulares para garantir seu funcionamento seguro. A manutenção preventiva também evita interrupções no cronograma da obra, beneficiando a produtividade.
O Programa de Prevenção de Riscos Ambientais (PPRA) e o Programa de Controle Médico de Saúde Ocupacional (PCMSO) são ferramentas essenciais para identificar e controlar riscos no ambiente de trabalho. O PPRA, por exemplo, avalia riscos ambientais, como poeira e ruídos, e define medidas de controle, incluindo o uso de EPIs adequados.
Exames médicos periódicos também ajudam a detectar precocemente problemas de saúde, como perda auditiva ou alergias causadas por agentes químicos.
A fiscalização rigorosa pelo empregador é crucial para garantir o uso correto de EPIs e o cumprimento das normas. A presença de um Técnico de Segurança do Trabalho no canteiro reforça a adesão às regulamentações e promove uma cultura de segurança, onde todos os envolvidos se sentem responsáveis pela prevenção de acidentes.
A Comissão Interna de Prevenção de Acidentes (CIPA) também desempenha um papel importante, incentivando a comunicação aberta sobre riscos e sugerindo melhorias.
Os Equipamentos de Proteção Individual (EPIs) são a última barreira de proteção contra riscos que não podem ser eliminados por medidas coletivas ou administrativas. Segundo a NR-6, é obrigação do empregador fornecer EPIs gratuitamente, garantindo que sejam adequados aos riscos de cada atividade e certificados pelo Ministério do Trabalho.
Capacetes, luvas, óculos de proteção, protetores auriculares e botas de segurança são indispensáveis em canteiros de obras, protegendo contra impactos, cortes, ruídos e exposição a substâncias nocivas.

Por isso, além de fornecer equipamentos de qualidade, as empresas devem investir em treinamentos que ensinem a usá-los corretamente e fiscalizar seu uso contínuo.
Além dos EPIs tradicionais, a construção civil começa a adotar tecnologias vestíveis (wearables), como capacetes com câmeras e sensores que monitoram condições do ambiente em tempo real. Embora ainda em estágio inicial no Brasil, essas inovações prometem aumentar a segurança e a eficiência, complementando o uso de EPIs.
A prevenção de acidentes na construção civil exige um esforço conjunto entre empregadores, trabalhadores e profissionais de segurança. Treinamentos regulares, sinalização clara, manutenção de equipamentos e programas de saúde ocupacional são fundamentais para criar um ambiente de trabalho seguro.
